Frolicking horses of many sizes and colors enjoy a passionate spring break moment in a grassy, northern Colorado pasture.
In 2014 and 2015 I participated in a northern Colorado horse drive that covered over 60 miles and included about 700 horses. It was truly the thrill of my life to be a part of that many horses for those two days for two years in a row. Since I was there to capture reference photos to use for paintings I rode a hay bale in the back of a pickup truck – not a horse. Along with me in that truck and in three others were true photographers there to capture photos for their photography businesses.
In this particular scene, the ranch and photographer’s guild also hosted a 5 day workshop prior to the horse drive. The ranch hands would took us out to a different part of the ranch each morning, along with about 50 horses. They ran the horses through various landscapes, including a creek, a flooded field, across various hills and ditches, even through a mild snow storm. It proved to be quite a mornings workout! On one day we went out in the evening for one more go down a steep hill side in the dying sun.
Thank you for visiting.
