St. Moritz, Switzerland, is the 1983 birthplace of the world’s pre-eminent snow polo tournament. The first Snow Polo tournament took place in January 1985 in a snow blizzard. The St Moritz Snow Polo World Cup the only polo tournament in the world played on a frozen lake and is a sporting event unlike any in the world. “Deep in the Alps, covered in snow, St. Moritz is one of the most coveted destinations catering to the world’s wealthiest. A land filled with Maseratis, Rolls Royces, fur coats and diamonds and for one wintery time a year, Polo Ponies.” Fortune magazine, 2018/12/14
Stunning and imposing buildings line the St. Moritz lake and the rising Engadine Valley. Its snow-covered mountain peaks provide a dramatic backdrop to the Valley’s revelry taking place below. The ultimate getaway for billionaires and royalty since 1864, St. Moritz received the English in the 1890’s. They made it the destination a hotspot for winter sports and eventually the Winter Olympic Games of 1928 and 1948 were held here. St. Moritz continues to “offer fairytale style events throughout the year”.
